no one is obligated to warn for anything if they don't want to. they can do whatever they damn well please because the internet is as much their space as it is your space.

and no one is obligated not to find the perpetual whining over occasional polite requests to not be obnoxious as hell.
you don't have to warn, but I'm also not obligated to not tell you you're a piece of shit for finding typing a single line of text too much hassle. entitlement's a two way street, and the OMG TRIGGER WARNINGS SO OPPRESSIVE crowd is about 10 times worse than the people expecting common decency. (which, warning for things like gore, rape, et al in common spaces? is.)

In my experience, a lot of it isn't "polite requests". Most (particularly SJW's) who deem something not satisfactorily trigger warned in fact get quite wound up about it, some even making text posts on their tumblr specifically calling out on it, which only serves to embarrass, shame, and guilt those who simply may have forgotten to TW.

Trust me, if it were civil I doubt anyone would be complaining about having to put in Trigger Warnings. As already stated ITT, there's a lot of subtle bullying by those who feel everyone should be catering to their triggers. It's the entitlement and dog piling that some have a problem with.

sorry, no. people are free to warn if they want. people are also free to not warn if they want. no one is obligated to do shit on the internet unless they're in a space that requires those things.

they should obey the rules of the space they're in (for instance, a fandom comm that requires warnings), but if that space has no rules? then they can do whatever they want. if there are no rules, you have no right to demand that they do anything for you. don't like, don't read, simple as that.

Politeness towards other people has never been obligatory, and neither is tolerance for rudeness. Hence, the free-for-all that is the internet.
