Re: kinks don't hurt anyone until they do

See, the problem with this attitude is that the internet is a great big place. Some places have rules about requiring labels, but a lot of them don't. There is no obligation to use warnings in places that don't require them, and not doing so has nothing to do with a lack of courtesy or respect.

Think of it this way: where I live, some restaurants have smoking sections, and others don't allow smoking at all. If you have a problem with cigarette smoke, would you go to one of the restaurants that has a smoking section and complain about the fact that people are smoking in the restaurant and call them rude and lacking respect for doing so? I would certainly hope not, because it's not your restaurant and you don't get to demand that someone else make a rule just for you. Obviously the other patrons of the restaurant are just fine with having smoking allowed there.

No, the logical thing would be to patronize the restaurants that you know don't allow smoking. If someone lights up there? Then yes, they are breaking the rules and being rude and disrespectful.

Likewise, if you have triggers, the best thing to do for your own health is to stick to places like fanfiction.net and AO3 and other moderated fandom communities where warnings for things are required. That's the equivalent of choosing only to eat in non-smoking restaurants.

There is a very easy solution to avoid being accidentally triggered, and that is to stick to places that you know are safe and have rules. Once you wander outside of those? The burden is on you, not everyone else.
