I went to their concert with my 16 yr old sister and had lots of fun screaming while simultaneously trying to take shitty pictures of Zayn and Niall, no regrets. Life is too short man, enjoy what makes you happy..Unless you're a pedo or something.

Jesus, I'm so tired of all the shame surrounding loving things considered "bad" by some super secret standard we all have to uphold for God knows what reason. I'm 25-going-on-26 and love the hell out of them. Their music is fun, puts me in a great mood, they're for the most part respectful and likable boys, and some of their lyrics are actually incredibly sex-positive. The only reason there's such a stigma about them is because they appeal to teenage girls and make them scream, which somehow makes them worthy of shame (because anything girls go crazy over MUST be crappy and laughable, amirite?)

Sorry, OP. Point is, love them as much as you want (I'm even going to see them when they come to South America next year. They do know how to put on an AMAZING and fun show). Anyone who looks down on you for doing so isn't worthy of your time.

Not secret: I am a twenty-two year-old college student. I am known in my circle of friends and classmates as some sort of music/cinema snob. I pride myself on not watching/listening to crap. And most of the time I do act as expected from this reputation...

The secret: I had to be the responsible adult, and take my thirteen year-old sister to their show. As shameful as it is, I love the hell out of it. I am now officially a closeted Directioner... I just can't help but love all their silly shitty songs. (YES, even their cover of One Way Or Another/Teenage Kicks) ((So sorry, Blondie and the Undertones!))

Glad you could have this awakening, OP. Quick word of advice, though: do not get involved in the fandom, because holy shit I have never seen a more vicious, hateful, entitled group of people in my entire life.

I'm 25 and I enjoy their music. Don't care about the band, but I like the music and anyone who tries to shame me for enjoying something you listen to is going to get some major side eye and "what does it matter to you?"
