Transcripts!
Secret 1 - One Direction
Not secret: I am a twenty-two year-old college student. I am known in my circle of friends and classmates as some sort of music/cinema snob. I pride myself on not watching/listening to crap. And most of the time I do act as expected from this reputation...
The secret: I had to be the responsible adult, and take my thirteen year-old sister to their show. As shameful as it is, I love the hell out of it. I am now officially a closeted Directioner... I just can't help but love all their silly shitty songs. (YES, even their cover of One Way Or Another/Teenage Kicks) ((So sorry, Blondie and the Undertones!))
Secret 2 - Ace Attorney
Not secret: I'm nearly thirty years old and have always believed myself to be asexual. Even before I discovered the world "asexual" I still knew that I had no interest in having sex and had never experienced sexual attraction to anyone. ...And then I discovered this character.
Secret: I would let her do *anything* to me. (Especially if it involved her whip.) WELL FUCK! I'm so confused! I feel like a teenager all over again!
Secret 3 - Cinderella, Kingdom Hearts
Words can't describe how happy I was that they got the color of Cinderella's dress right in Kingdom Hearts.
Secret 4 - Fandom Secrets
I usually hate to read the comments on the secrets that I've posted. It's usually something negative that will bring me down. I just really need a place to post stuff that I can never tell anyone or put on tumblr, because the trolls jump on stuff quickly over there. And to be honest, over here.
Even so, I enjoy reading through the day's secrets, because I always have a laugh or I can relate. [outline of a read heart symbol]
Image is not even remotely related to any of my fandoms. I just wanted a pretty picture to write on. [smiling face emoticon]
Secret 5 - Sherlock
I think Sherlock is okay. Not amazing, not bad, just okay.
Bonus secret: I also think Benedict Cumberbatch is an average actor.
I don't get the hype. Am I missing something? [displeased face emoticon]
Secret 6 - Writing professionally, William Shakespeare
I want to write for a living. In the past I've stuck to prose and poetry, but last year I spent eight months writing and perfecting a full-length, two act comedic play, and I think I've found my new passion. That's not my secret.
The secret is, I can't stand Shakespeare. I can hardly get through a page of his work without having to look something up or refer to the CliffNotes, and I don't find the stories engaging enough to be worth the effort (with the exception of Hamlet).
I'm only eighteen, so hopefully this will change, but right now I find the Bard nothing short of frustrating.
Secret 7 - Kink Memes
Dear Kink Meme Responders: When I post a request for Character A/Character B/Character C, that doesn't mean I want:
-A/C plus B as a friend.
-A/C with B pining after A (and A/C not even thinking of B)
-Any other permutation that doesn't have all three characters in some sort of (sexual) relationship.
If I wanted A/C plus B, I'd ask for that. If I wanted A/C, or B/C, or A/B, I'd ask for that. But this is a kink meme, and the only place where I can actually ask for some hot, steamy A/B/C.
Have a turtle wearing a raspberry so this isn't a wall of text.
Secret 8 - Harry Potter, Disturbed
I can't listen to this song without thinking of Snape and Voldemort.
Secret 9 - Supernatural
I don't understand the comments in the recent Supernatural secrets about Dean being selfish when he made the deal to save Sam. Yes, it was in part because he didn't want to lose Sam, but I don't think that was the only reason. And if it were my sister who was dead and who I assumed would be in hell, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Secret 10 - Acting, Gwyneth Paltrow
I want to be an actress so badly. But I'm in fandoms; I know how brutal fans can be. I'm scared everyone hates me.
Picture sorta related because apparently nobody really likes her.
Secret 11 - Viewfinder (warning, discussion of safe spaces in fandom (mention of types of abuse)
[Picture is a screen-capture of a piece LiveJournal blog post. It says:
[Not fic] Just a few words to think on...
I saw something today in the VF fandom that made me want to cry. It wasn't on the YA or Sion community, but on another fan site, directed at specific fans. I feel the need the post this publicly on the chance that the person who wrote it will read this, and perhaps think before posting something like that again.
VF has been really important to me and a lot of others because of the tolerance within the community, especially regarding matters of gender, sexuality, rape/abuse history, and above all exploration of these things in fan fiction. Quite a few women (and men) come to this manga because they want to connect to others because they have pasts they're dealing with, or because they have questions about who they are, or because they know who they are and they feel different and are looking for like people to know that they're not. Whatever it is, VF draws us.
This isn't to say all the fans are like this. Many just like a good story with sexy boys (who doesn't? XD). And that's great too. I love the mix of fans, so many cultures and backgrounds and beliefs and motivations. So I think it's important to be aware that there are many readers who have other reasons for putting feelers out into the community than the ones that each of us has. And fan fiction can be a great way for writers and readers alike to explore all of them.
One common way of doing this across all fandoms is gender-bending. We have a couple of writers who have started experimenting with this. Not all of them do it the same way. Not everyone will agree with how the writers do it. But what's wonderful about it is that they're doing it at all, because it leads to people rethinking gender and what it means and discussion about the same, and for those who already have been thinking about it it leads to greater feelings of acceptance in the community because they know others are thinking about it too.
So today when I saw an extremely misogynistic attack upon one of these stories and its readers, simply because the author dared to give a BL character a CUNT and BOOBS, as the reviewer put it, my heart broke not just for the author, but for all the people who may already feel like outcasts because they have questions about their gender. What must they think, reading a review spewing hate simply because a writer changed a character's gender to explore what that means? What must they think [truncated]]
This post is a joke. The Viewfinder fandom has NEVER been tolerant or a safe space whether for gender or sexuality issues or for pairings (like shipping something that's not the fandom's pet pairing.) It was also hugely intolerant when the US got the translation of the manga and the outside US or Japan fans didn't.
So don't you come crying now, I used to be in this fandom and USED to has a reason. It's one of the most cliquish, intolerant, elitist and unfriendly fandoms I have ever had the misfortune to come across.
Not Fandom
Sorry Fandom Secrets and Tunmblr, but, well, "neckbeard" is a stupid insult and it's hard to take people who use it seriously.
If someone's being a creep CALL THEM OUT ON BEING A CREEP rather than make unrelated taunts about the amount of facial hair on their neck. What you're doign is hypocritical, especially when you talk about people not policing women's bodies (which is a very legitimate issue) and then turn around and mock someone else's body. It's fucking embarrassing.
Call them on their ACTIONS if you have a problem with their ACTIONS. Don't sink to their level.
Secret because: "You're just being an apologist for them and you're probably a misogynist too."
(No, I'm not endorsing the actions of creepy dudes. I'm saying that we should call them on their actions rather than their shaving habits.)
