I...actually really wish I could show how an author I know explained it to me once [but, sadly, I don't think I can really show you the eraser pushing, and idk how to explain it well other wise. ><]

I don't want the story that is happening 'now' to be stalled out when we go backwards to explore the whys and hows of how this character came to be.
And, of course - as the author i say *of course*!! it's important and has everything to do with the story!! It's hard to be objective when you're immersed in your characters and their world.
