OP I was meh on Shakespeare at your age. Now, many years later, I regularly go to Stratford to watch the RSC, I go to National Theatre productions and Old Vic, whenever I can see a play I do.

I've just realised as I get older how contemporary the plays are, how well he captured emotion particularly. A good production of Antony and Cleopatra I find incredibly moving (Patrick Stewart and Harriet Walter, amazing) but then I'm middle aged, and that's partly what the play is about.

Reading the plays doesn't work for me, never has, I really find the live performances the best, and some of the films. There's some great films of RSC productions, worth checking. Also the National and RSC do a stream to cinemas that you might like. In fact in November they are streaming Richard 11, which is going to have David Tennant play the lead. It normally streams in the US, UK, Australia, not sure where else.

Anyhow just saying you might find your opinion changes over the years, and it's also worth being at least familiar with his work as so much has been influenced by it.
