I got all excited when I saw Jonathan Rhys Meyers and thought "yay, something new to watch with him in it!" and then realized it was a Mortal Instruments secret. Total boner killer.

Well, he is coming out with a new show in the US on NBC where he plays the vampire, Dracula. So, there's that. I've always wanted to see him play a vampire. And it doesn't look as cheesy as you would think it would be.

Haven't seen the movie and it's been forever since I've read the books, so I can't comment on Valentine's appearance. But how did Godfrey Gao not work as Magnus?

Oh, he did. He so, so did.

He worked for me when it came to how he physically looked, but his personality didn't shine through at all. I don't blame the actor for that, though, but the material he had to work with.

He's the evil father of the Draco-like, and Lucius was evil in the Draco Trilogy. I think those dots are joinable.

Yeah, I just checked Wikipedia and apparently he's supposed to be "very handsome"? not that the dude is ugly or anything, but that pic in the secret doesn't scream "very handsome" to me

I like the actor and all. (No, really.) And I'm one of the first usually to say that movies don't have to perfectly match the books they're based on and all, but...

It just irrationally annoyed me during the entire movie that he looks ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like how the character is described in the books.

Bonus secret: The guy who played Magnus didn't work for me either.

Actually, I always wish there were at least two adaptations for each of my favourite books - one perfectly literal, true-to-canon, and the other a wild interpretation that came from god knows where. It always irks me when actors in regular screen versions do not resemble the original characters. [Although this quickly becomes irrelevant if the acting is good enough]

I'm more annoyed that Jeremy Danvers is being played by a white guy, instead of an Asian actor. Just dropping the kitsune blood makes it such a copout, IDK.
