ayrt yes absolutely. Hookups and whatnot are much much more common than dating, speaking from 5 years experience having lived/dated in Japan.

You're talking about pure stereotypes. I lived in Japan for years, and I doubt you know shit about their culture past hentai and shock stories. Most guys are, believe it or not, normal, and there are a lot of elements in their culture that leads people to being single - mainly, I believe, due to a work/school culture that sucks almost all of people's free time, not because all Japanese men are pedophiles and only like anime girls or something.

What I've heard [from someone else who lives there] is that part of the issue is that Japan has very specific views about what roles the genders play in relationships and how men and women act. Women are expected to be passive, but they're getting more aggressive and the reverse with men, which is causing some issues...at least, that's what they led me to believe.

Huh. I read an article recently that men are increasingly uninterested in sex there. (I think they have a special name for this, too?) and it's becoming a huge problem because the gap between the old and young are widening at an alarming rate. I think they also are having a big problem with low birthrates now.

Maybe its because I can't read the labels on the chart, but that article is unclear on where they got these numbers. I assume their only talking about unmarried men and not counting those with wives.
