Same here! Not too happy with the new rules they're talking about implementing this year but I'll probably still participate, I couldn't bear to miss out, aha.

Yeah, I'm so pissed about that new rule! I'm being rather agumentative over at the YT community, which probably isn't a good idea, but... I wouldn't be able to participate if the rule stays, to be honest (nothing I've nominated through the years have ever been seconded).

I generally choose my fandoms by getting inspiration from other people's 'here's what I'm going to nominate' posts (there's never anything I've specifically wanted from Yuletide) so it's not a total dealbreaker for me, but it's still super annoying.
Looks like they're reviewing things again though? Fingers crossed it turns out you're still able to participate this year!

Ah, that's cool. I'm more of the "OMG I want fic for this obscure book that was written over hundred years ago!" type, I'm afraid -_-;

Yeah, it seems like they are. Of course, I was upset despite that and thus went ahead saying that I felt like the new mods didn't bode well for the future. Ugh. I totally regret it now, but it's too late to take back. Oh well, as long as I don't get banned...! *weak laugh*

Is there a place where people are currently chatting about this? I notice they locked the orig post(which makes sense;the point had been made) but I'd still like to chat about it as a comm.

There's a thread on the latest failfandomanon post.

Dare I ask?

I quit Yuletide the year they declared that "number of fics something has on AO3" was the new sole criterion for judging whether or not something was small enough to qualify.

They're talking about making it so fandoms need two nominations to be eligible. Also, the number of fandoms you're allowed to nominate's going from four to three, and there's something about certain characters not being allowed if there's over a certain number of fics about them in ao3/ffn tags?

So... they're making it harder to get something nominated and reducing the odds that things will get seconded? Oh, this makes sense.

I found that rule very disappointing myself. The year that rule went live, I had just watched Voyager for the first time, and I felt sure that it would qualify. Turns out some of the people writing fic years ago had uploaded all their old fic to AO3, which normally would make me all yay! but instead made me sad because it meant Voyager which just barely not eligible even though most of the fic was not in any way recent.
