Apparently a lot of people enjoy that aspect of books. Like a version of soulmates or what have you. I've never been one for the soulmates thing to begin with and then to have it start off with such power differential makes it worse for me. (For bonus fun times, other vampires blamed the girl because the guy vampire casting the binding spell on her caused him issues. Like, what? It wasn't her fault he decided to bind her (and not even tell her anything about it)! Sigh...)
