14 OP

Indeed. I mean, heck, if they're enjoying it... let them enjoy it. In the meantime, if they haven't seen the original trilogy, I can try to show it to them. :) I do own the prequels and they are occasionally pulled out for Star Wars marathons, but I try to get around seeing Phantom Menace whenever I can.

But I have a friend who's a die-hard OT fan and she likes the new prequels, too. I'm sad that all the fic on the internet now is all about Anakin and Obi-Wan and not Luke, Leia and Han, but she likes the new fic and reads it a lot. The fact that she likes it isn't hurting me, why would it? And we still yammer on about Star Wars together like a bunch of nerdy old ladies.

I tried to get into EU once, but it just seemed like too much! I didn't really like what I did read, so it wasn't that encouraging to read more. My fried recced some books to me, but I guess I'm just so set on the OT being "the story" that any more canon just seems kind of strange.

Exactly! I find that alot of the prequel fans are really just fans that really like the buffed up special effects, and I've even met some who think the original trilogy is "boring" (Don't ask me how! I could watch them for the rest of my life!)

I admit, I was really lucky, since when I started getting into the EU, it was only 1994, and the books were only just starting to really come out in full force, so I was able to really get into them, plus I was using the internet at that time, so finding timelines was really easy for me. Yeah, I'm a huge nerd for that. XD

I agree about the fiction. I tend to hang around TheForce.net's boards, since they tend to shell out quite a bit of decent fanfiction. Alot of what I read is EU, sure, but hey! :D I love the OT as well, and try to hunt down what I can. (Although it is hard since the "Saga" fic board is lumped into one massive section and you get ALOT of prequel stuff!) Did you ever used to read at fanfix.com or whatever it was?

Nothing wrong with being a huge nerd for Star Wars. Ever. I used to bring the Star Wars Encyclopedia to school every day and read it at lunch and have conversations with my friends about the merits of various spacecraft -- speed vs. shielding thing. XD

I kind of prefer fanfic over EU, because while EU is "official" and that's really how the story is for real now thanks for Lucas's backup, you can do anything with fanfic. :) I was always fond of reading AU fics where Luke went to the dark side for some reason. Or... "what-if" type fics, like, "What would have happened if Uncle Owen had let Luke go to the Academy?" kind of thing.

I actually haven't read Star Wars fic in a reaaally long time (my search for Imperial Luke somehow always resulted in my finding the exact opposite -- friendly!fatherly!Vader, which is kind of WTF), so I don't remember where I did the most rummaging around. Talking about it makes me want to go back and find all the good stuff, though.

Man, I really want to watch Star Wars now. :)

Haha, that's for sure! I used to read my EU collection religiously in classes that I didn't pay attention in (lolmath) but sadly nobody would discuss Star Wars geekery with me!

Yeah, I'm totally with you. I've always wanted to read a really good Imperial Luke fic, or Dark Side Luke, but its so hard to find some! I've had a bit of a plot-bunny for one for a while, but actually getting around to writing it is another story altogether. lol

Yeah, I've been in a Star Wars Marathon mood for a while myself. This makes me want to watch it more!
