...isn't raising kids kind of fathery?

Don't go arbitrarily gendering basic adult functions.

Silly goose! If a man loves and raises a child all by himself then he's not a father - he's just a mother with a penis.

I just meant that he took on a role that involved him having to replace both parental figures (having to be the traditional 'strong, anchor' father and a compassionate and gentle 'mother')shows how even though he is certainly a 'manly man' it isn't shameful at all for him to act in ways that are traditionally feminine.

And saying that the 'mother' is the one who is compassionate and gentle is what's annoying. Being 'a strong anchor who is compassionate and gentle' are the roles for any parent, not split up between 'doting mum' and 'disciplinarian dad'. My mum was the firm provider who kept order when we were growing up - it didn't make her more of a dad than a mum. And my dad being the emotional one didn't make him more of a mum.

Okay, someone else can use the soapbox now.

na

Pretty sure back in the 18th century things were a bit different with the gender roles and such.
