I do agree that it seems like the Tim Gunn save was more out of emotional attachment than because Justin deserved the save, but I don't think Kahindo really warranted a save either. I really thought Tim was going to use the save for like the top six or seven, hell, maybe even five or four, so I'm actually more disappointed that he used it too early. I think the Tim Gunn save should be used when we do get to know the designers a lot better, and the attachment to the designers and their aesthetic doesn't really register well with me as a viewer until we're down to about six or seven designers.

But with that said, I don't really mind that Justin got a second chance. He's been an OK designer so far, it's just sometimes he can go a little far with his designs and they come off costume-y.

I'm not too hot on any designer just yet, but I do like Kate (who I liked last season and I did think she was voted off too early last time so I'm glad to see her in this season and doing pretty good so far), Braden (when he's not going too far with his "avant garde" stuff and has a fairly good balance on his designs) and Alexandria (on the most part, but she hasn't really blown me away too much). I think Helen isn't a great designer and she's being overhyped. I don't know, I didn't really give a shit about her last challenge! It was just a black dress with a fucking cape! I don't get it! But what do I know? I'm not some fashionista, just a PR viewer.

Oops, I ranted. Sorry, as you may have guessed I have no one to discuss this with.

I agree with a lot of this. It felt a little early to send Justin home, though he's not amazing. It's possible the judges even knew Gunn would save him when they voted him out, which makes the save even more artificial.

Yeah, I wondered if we needed to see Helen's last design up close to really get it? I didn't think it responded to the shoes in any impressive way, which was the point of the challenge, so I was a little surprised by her winning. *shrug*

I didn't even think of that until I read this. And I completely agree.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one frustrated with Helen's win. I know the designers kept raving about how well tailored the dress was, but as you said, it was basically just the dress that they liked not the pairing of the dress to the shoes. With the criteria of the challenge in mind, I thought Alexandria did a better job.

"It's possible the judges even knew Gunn would save him when they voted him out, which makes the save even more artificial."

I got that impression as well - from their comments, I didn't really expect Justin to get voted out, especially since he hadn't been in the bottom before (I think?). But from the second he was voted out, I thought it was pretty obvious that the save would be played.

But ah, well. I'm generally not very convince by the judges' "taste levels", especially Heidi's.
