Secret 1 - Femslash

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is black text on a blank white background.]

I briefly wrote fanfic and drew artwork for a male slash ship that was in a large fandom. Even though I'm a lesbian, I figured "oh well, I'll just read the romance and have them be cute in artwork. I'll get to read stories about gay people written by women since there's a dearth of femslash." (It didn't actually cut it.) I still wrote femslash, since I love it and felt an obligation.

Now that I'm out of that fandom though? I miss the comments. I only get one comment on a work that would've gotten tons more. I only get hundred-ish notes on tumblr for art that would've hit thousands on tumblr if it were dudes.

I'm one of those that complain about the lack of femslash... but... I don't know whether straight women are just easier to please or what because I'm sick of not getting the same level of appreciation. It's depressing.

I'm not going to quit, but damn, where's the love?

Psst, I don't know what's up with your monitor, but the background actually white with two intertwined pink "female" symbols with hearts for the circle parts?

Re: Secret 1 - Femslash

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Yes, I have it kind of dark to avoid hurting my eyes. Yikes, thanks for telling me! I'll have to keep this in mind for secrets from now on.

Secret 2 - Mercy

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cast of the TV show "Mercy". They are three men and two women all wearing pants and standing or sitting on a dentist-type of chair in a medical examination room (of dentistry?), looking seriously at the camera.]

I'm still sad this show was cancelled. I think it had potential to be a great show it if had had a chance. I especially loved the way it handed its female characters.

Secret because: Laughing Out Loud who even watched this show?

Secret 3 - Supernatural

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the actresses Genevieve Padalecki née Cortese (Ruby from the TV show "Supernatural") and Danneel Ackles (former stage name "Danneel Harris", acted in the TV shows "One Tree Hill" and "One Life to Live"), both wives of the lead actors of the TV show "Supernatural". Genevieve has olive skin and long dark hair, and Danneel has light skin and layered dark blonde or light brown hair reaching her chest at its longest. They're both wearing sleeveless clothes and smiling for the camera in different photographs.]

I honestly find the wife stans more obnoxcious than the tinhatters. At least the tinhatters are just full on crazy. The wife stans are a lot more insidious. They pretend to care about Danneel and Genevieve so they look like a "good fan" unlike the crazies when, in reality, they don't give a shit.

Genevieve was a shitty Ruby, and most people haven't seen anything Danneel has been in, but god forbid you say that! It's just an annoying double standard. I can say how I like Mila Kunis, but think Ashton Kutcher is a douche, but if I say that Danneel's voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard, I am suddenly Satan incarnate.

For the record, I'm not into Real Person Fanfiction at all, and I have nothing against the actors' wives. I just hate that you're a "bad fan" for not caring.

Secret 4 - The Big Bang Theory

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the actress Kaley Cuoco playing Penny from the TV show "The Big Bang Theory". She is a woman with lightly tanned light skin and medium-length blonde hair. She is smiling in a forceful way?]

Something about the way she plays Penny reminds me of... Dean Winchester. I'm not lying or trolling. And I don't really get it, but I think it's the sarcastic smiles and the eyebrow movements.

Secret 5 - MTV VMAs 2013, Miley Cyrus, Bloom County

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the musician Miley Cyrus from the most recent MTV Video Music Awards live presentation. She is wearing a silver leotard with a cartoon teddy bear printed on the front, with its pink circular ears over her breasts, her hair done up in two rolls over her head and she is clinging to an enormous teddy bear prop that she's standing inside of, around where the stomach would be, holding on with a leg and an arm as she pokes her tongue out at the public. Next to her is Bill the Cat from the comic strip "Bloom County". It is an orange cat standing upright like a person, making a peace sign with a front paw and wearing light gray and blue tennis shoes. It is standing on a doorway making the onomatopeias "Ackth Oop" and "Blech".]

Ever since the VMAs I cannot unsee the resemblance and now Bloom County is ruined forever.
Edited (Thanks, Othellia! May your dreams be free of Cyrus and teddy bears forevermore.) 2013-09-05 03:24 (UTC)

Secret 6 - Convention, cosplay

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is two drawn stick people and black text over a white background.]

Secret maker: I'm so excited to go to my first con!
Other person: You should cosplay!
Secret maker: No, I don't want to cosplay. I might wear a fandom shirt.
Other person: Cosplaying is great! People hug you and enjoy your outfit.
Secret maker: I really don't feel comfortable with the idea of me cosplaying. I don't want people noticing me. I want to go look at things.
Other person: Here's a link to your favorite character's outfit on eBay.
Secret maker: No, thank you, I don't want to draw attention to myself.

Time skip

Other person: Here's a cosplay for you to wear today. [Stick figure: has wings sprouting out of the head, has the word "them" on the head and "cosplay" over their blue torso. The words "ignoring", "insisting" and "insist" are floating around them.]
Secret maker: No, I don't want to! I'm going to go explore by myself. [Stick figure: Has the word "me" on the head and "a fandom" over the red torso. The words "unhappy", "stressed" and "just want to explore con, don't want to cosplay" are floating around them.]

Too long; didn't read: My first convention wasn't much fun, they kept insisting. [sad face emoticon]

Secret 7 - Sherlock (?)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a few pieces of paper or card stock with black and white illustrations of characters from the "Sherlock Holmes" books with the words "Sherlock Holmes, 221B Baker Street, London" below them. There are the spines of books (in a box?) below them, and an old looking or handmade deck of playing cards next to the illustrations.]

Everyone seems to think that if Watson hits Holmes and throws a fit during the reunion it is somehow healthier than the original version. Different strokes for different folks, but I think the scenario rather creepy than sweet. The fact that it's popular with Sherlock fans only shows that the relationship between John and Sherlock is far unhealthier than its canon analogue.

I'm tired of all the pointless rage in reunion fics.

Secret 8 - Supernatural

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is closeups of the faces of Dean and Sam Winchester from the TV show "Supernatural". They look serious.]

Year 1 in Fandom: NO HOMO(sexuality), What The Fuck is FANFIC? How dare they?!
Year 2: Fanfic...okay. Ho...okay.
Year 3: HO(mosexuality) YAY! (stopped caring about Out of Character)
Year 4: Will read almost anything: incest, water sports, alpha/omega, sub/dom, original male dog, werewolf, egg-laying, mpreg, furniture-fucking, slavery, shock therapy. Bring it. (Just spell check, please.)
Year 5: I'm scared of becoming immune to vore/gore, scat and pedo, but I can see it coming.

Secret 9 - Historical books (England)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the covers of the books "The Daughter of Time", by Josephine Tey, "The White Queen", by Philippa Gregory and "The Sunne in Splendor", by Sharon Penman. The first one has a white rose and a red rose growing out of a metallic crown?, the second one a woman with light skin and long braided blonde hair dressed in the finery of a queen, and the third one has many soldiers fighting in the background and many spears flying around and poking out of both sides of the picture, with the stylized image of the Fleur-de-lis stamped three times in the background.]

It annoys me that the most popular novels about this era are written with strong Yorkist sympathies.

Bonus secret: I think most Ricardians are delusional.

Notes

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Wikipedia tells me that:

Yorkist = redirects to "House of York"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yorkist

and

Ricardians are people interested in altering the posthumous reputation of Richard III, King of England (reigned 1483–1485). Richard III has long been portrayed unfavourably, most notably in William Shakespeare's play Richard III. In an effort to turn this around and paint such characterizations as politically motivated, Ricardian historians' work has produced editions of documents from Richard's reign, research, and articles which have contributed to scholarship of England in the 1480s.

Secret 10 - Fanfiction

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is black text over white blank background.]

,,Mmmmmm~ Ah- haa~"
,,Nn- nnaa... ahh~" he moaned.

[arrow pointing upwards]

Stumbling over stuff like this in fics gives me so much secondhand embarrassment and usually kills my mood.

Not Secret

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cast from the CGI animated movie "Monsters University". They are a bunch of cartoony colorful monsters smiling and waving at the camera. Some of them are wearing caps and green sweatshirts.]

If they have (had) a fear of humans, why use our names and naming conventions? Can we get some Mudflargs in here?

Not Fandom

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the logo of the LiveJournal community "ONTD Political".]

Even speaking as someone who leans to the left nine times out of ten, I miss the old ONTD_P. Before one could have differing political views and still have a rational discussion with one another.

Now it's become an extreme liberal echo chamber, where anyone who dares to disagree with the current agenda is attacked and mocked. They even harassed the sole conservative moderator to the point where she was forced to resign.

If everyone agrees with each other, what's the point?
