My cat really needs a bath. Last time I bathed her she bit me and escaped covered in soap. I am dreading this. ;_;

Also, I hate Superman.

My sympathies. I need to clip my pet's nails and I am not looking forward to the flailing, over dramatic "I'm dying" reactions he'll give me.

My cat only gets his claws clipped when we have to take him to the vet for something else. It takes both the vet and a tech to do it; one to hold him, the other to clip. And he managed to draw blood on the vet once. I have a Supercat. It's not nearly as cool as it sounds.

Mine's a rabbit and I am sooo glad he's albino because I can see the quick...but holyshit does he flail. He gets bunny burrito'd and all. If I can't do it today, I have a vet appt next week anyway XD

His lady friend is a good girl though and sits politely while I cut hers.

The alternative is, of course, getting long and stuck in carpet D:

Oh god, that's my drama queen too. I pull out the clippers at home and she runs off and hides, I pull them out AFTER she's in my lap and she starts squirming, yowling, and basically acting like I'm cutting a paw off before I even clip a single damn claw, so I just get the vet to do it.

It takes the muzzle, the assistant to clip, and the vet with gloves on holding her, and me holding her and sweet talking her to get it done and she still yowls like something out of a horror film.

My male cat though, is pretty much a stoner. He will let you do whatever the fuck you want. Trim his claws? Okay, he lays there and just thinks it's a game and tries to chase my hands. Hell, he sits there and watches me vacuum and I've never seen a cat that didn't go apeshit when the vacuum goes on (outside of a youtube video anyway).

I always dreaded giving my cat a bath. She turned into 12lbs of rage-fueled supernatural strength that granted her the ability to climb ceramic tile.

My cat is 12 lbs of rage always. She really does not like me.

the imagery here made me giggle *g*

Is there a way for you to close of the area you bathe her in? Like, sliding the doors shut in a shower stall? (Also, I'm guessing you probably didn't use "soap" in a literal sense -- but if you did, that's not what you should use.)

Best of luck with it, here's to hoping there won't be much bloodshed!

Oh no. I meant soap in the literal sense. She bit me, I screamed, she escaped trailing soap and water behind her.

Ah, okay. Maaaaybe that's one of the reasons she freaked so bad! AFAIK normal soap/shampoo is very harsh on cats' skin, so perhaps it stung really bad? I'd definitely try getting some shampoo that's meant for cats, and give that a try instead. Knowing cats she'll probably act the same way, but it will be better for her.

It was special hairball control cat shampoo! Her brother likes it, but then again he isn't a demon.

Ugh, I guess my English skillz aren't up to par tonight. Sorry about that; I thought you were using soap as in normal soap for humans! (Also, wow, a cat that actually likes it? You're lucky -- all my cats have been demons in that regard, heh.)

That's a shame, because Superman could probably help bathe your cat.

So could Iron Man or Thor! And at least I like them. :P

Fair enough. Give Tony fifteen minutes and he'd probably invent something that bathes your cat for you without the cat ever noticing.

I was gonna throw a laundry basket over her and just hose her through it. But my mom said no. : /

Ah, I was too busy joking to remember that I have actual advice, even if I don't have firsthand evidence of its effectiveness (the only cat I have ever had to bathe was too old to do more than yell at us). I have been told that if you put a piece of window screen or something similarly stiff and mesh-y in the bottom of the sink/tub the cat will clench its claws into it rather than flailing about and trying to run away.

Why do you have to bathe your cat? Not challenging you, but i've owned cats for thirty years and the only time they ever got a bath was for flea-killing purposes, and that was fucking *fraught*. Before Frontline, et al, became a thing.

My cats go outdoors a lot and get really dirty sometimes. : / I don't bathe them often. Maybe twice a year.

Re: Venting thread

[personal profile] tabaqui 2013-09-05 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Meh. Good luck.

One of our cats pulled the bathroom shelves off the walls when we had to do the flea-bathe on him, the other destroyed the shower curtain and bit my SO through heavy motorcycle gloves.

Maybe you could just do a good wiping of the paws with a wet washcloth and then a wipe-down with a damp one on the fur, with a good brushing? Unless they're rolling in mud or something, that should get them clean enough to take care of the rest themselves....

Or unless they're stinky. Heh.

Yeaaaah, I should probably bathe my cats one of these days, but I can't shake the imagery of one of them literally climbing up my torso and over my head to escape, screaming all the way.
