Aaaauuugh, I hate when authors make casual, modern teenagers speak overly proper. :| Or when they overly badass-ify/jerkify a character.

On the same note, I hate when writers don't use contractions when there would naturally be a contraction. "We are going to the store. You should not come. We do not want broccoli." Stahp!

Unless it's Data from Star Trek: TNG ;) Then the reverse is true. He doesn't use contractions!

Omfg this happens all the time with fanfic!Snape. They make him speak like he's an old Vicotrian man who drinks scotch all day. In canon he spoke like a normal teenaged dude. Even as an adult, too.
