I hate how one little thing will get adopted by fandom and then overused.

For example, I have read way too many Harry Potter stories where one of the Weasleys will yell "Mal-ferret" to Draco. No, I don't find this cute or funny or endearing at all. Please stop.

Or describing someone by looks when you could just say their name.

I KNOW! Like, I do enjoy the tentacles and third eye concept in Welcome to Night Vale. But EVERY fic does not have to have them. -__- I think the worse fanon being adopted for me was Castiel having black wings in SPN. I love me some wing fic, but why are they always black. : /

Probably because all we've ever seen of them is black shadows. Unimaginative, maybe, but there it is. (Also I have to say personally that I like the look of raven-black wings and think they would suit him quite well.)

I honestly find it hilarious that Night Vale fics on AO3 have a tag specifically to point out that, no, THIS fic doesn't actually have tentacles this time!

I know this one is silly but I hate how fandom has Remus be that guy who always had chocolate and read all the time. The chocolate thing was a common treatment for exposure to Dementors, not his personal obsession, and he was reading a book in Snape's Worst Memory because he was revising for finals, and the reason James and Sirius weren't revising was because they were arrogant because they knew they were good at everything.

Why are people so obsessed with making him Hermione 2.0? Actually that goes with Lily, too. OI.

Harry Potter has so many of these, especially in the Next Gen fics. Yes, some people are similar to their parents but not everyone is identical. I'm a good cross of both of my parents but my brother is identical to my dad and we're not sure where my sister comes from.
