I bet that second one would be awful if you knew the language well enough. What is your native language if I may ask?

Irish. I think the Scots have it even worse. There are enough characters of Scots/Irish descent that writers are tempted to have them use exotic terms of endearment, and not enough native speakers around to balance them. (Though I've seen plenty of poor French too.)

In fairness, it can be very funny. I fondly recall an old Buffy/Angel fic where Angel called Buffy "my strange heart-attack".
