TW: animal abuse/death

There is a woman I'm friends with on FB for gaming purposes but I don't know her irl. Anyway, both she and I are huge animal lovers and she posts a lot of good pics from groups she belongs to.

But she also posts a lot of Stop animal abuse stuff that has pictures. I can't take the pictures. She just posted one that has a group of guerrilla-looking guys all smiling and happy. One is holding a dog's decapitated head while another is holding up the body. She posts a lot of these, with people smiling happily over their animal kills. It's not triggering to me but it is greatly upsetting. I know she means well - it's all about trying to get the anti-abuse/torture/death message out there, but I'm sick of seeing that on my feed.

I'm thinking of unfriending her, which would suck because I do like the rest of her posts, but I can't look at that shit.

I really hate people who "combat abuse" by aggressively circulating abusive images. How counter-intuitive can you get? Maybe you could ask her to please link the pictures instead?

Me too. A couple of years ago at my university a pro-life group had a 'display' - giant posters of what were supposedly pictures of aborted fetuses. They were as gross as you'd imagine. Some other students claimed they weren't actually human fetuses, but some kind of animal. I'm not sure how true that was, but either way it was a bit much.

I was also thinking of that kind of shit. Yeah, way to humanize the unborn children you care about so much by reducing them to a gag-worthy pile of bloody, barely-recognizable gore.

Most "aborted fetus" pictures are of full-term/near full-term infants who had genetic deformities so severe that they pretty much immediately died once they left the womb. That's why they're so large and graphic. (Others are rubber sculptures created to look like fetuses.)

So while a lot of the pictures are accurate in the sense that they're human fetuses:

A. Many of them were not aborted, and instead died of "natural" causes because they never had a chance to live in the first place.
B. Aborted fetuses tend to be much smaller and less developed because they often happen in the first or second trimesters.
C. They intentionally choose fetuses/infants with physical deformities to make the pictures more shocking and "OMG LOOK HOW ABORTION MUTILATES THEM."

You could take her out of your newsfeed instead of unfriending her. I suppose you could also ask her about it and tell her why you feel that way, too.

But, yeah, shock images, even if they're promoting a good cause, are not cool.

If you can install unbaby.me (http://unbaby.me/) I think you can futz with the settings to it blocks whatever you want it to block, not just babies. Maybe that could work?
