Fics that add in waaaay too much that doesn't need to be there, either in dialogue or just in general.

Because, if I'm forced to sit through a mass of scenes that isn't related to the plot? It's going to make me wonder what the plot actually *is* and if the writer even knows what the plot is*.

With dialogue I just...really, really don't like the hammed up over the top stuff a lot of people do because they don't know like how 'snipped and to-the-point most dialogue is!" [Or something along those lines is reason I've mostly seen.]

Too much of either? I quit reading.

*This doesn't apply to stuff that ends up relating to the plot later on, of course

Ah yes. All that purple prose stuff. That was really big in LOTR fanfics if I recall.

I didn't actually mean purple prose [though that *is* pretty damn annoying]. I meant more stuff like the author adding in a huge back story ["Because I really like it!"] or a long speech that's out of place, you know?

The former feels like a bait and switch when it happens and that latter...idk. I just really hate long speeches XD;;
