Re: Inspired by #10
(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 09:21 am (UTC)(link)- canon!female love interests written overly hysteric in slash fic (Jennifer Keller making hissy fits? Nope!);
- that one funny thing that happened once, and only once, becoming overly-overused and part of basic characterization in AUs;
- in rom-com AUs (or other movie!AUs), dialog taken word-for-word from the movie (DieHard4!AU McShep story, where John Sheppard makes fun of Star Wars action figures? I backbutton and never look back.);
- movie!AUs forcing the characters in specific roles from the movie (Radek Zelenka as Elizabeth Weir’s godfather? Exactly how and why?)
- high school!AUs ignoring age gaps and the reverse, teacher/student!AUs making age gaps where it wasn’t in the original;
- epiphets, especially job-related epiphets in smut scenes („and the doctor pulled the consulting detective closer” Seriously?);
- the „lover” epiphet, especially when the relationship is not like that (hate!sex, fuckbuddies, one night stands), or it’s used too early (After the first kiss? Really?);
- names appearing too early in AUs and crossovers when the characters just met, and the narration clearly is from their point of view (Yes, we, the readers, know that he’s Danny Williams, but for Sheppard he will probably be „that short-blond-guy” until he introduces himself);
- names-names-names-names-names (Who the hell is that Eddie Monroe you constantly talk about? Why do you think House would switch from „Wilson” to „James” after twentysomething years just because of one kiss?);
Looking at this list, I think I might read too much AUs.
