I think people probably just notice the female characters more because they tend to get more focus in his work. It's far more even than most think, but MOST works out there are prominently male. So when there's more female to balance it out suddenly normal drama and character pain and development and tragedy are "attacking female characters" or something. No. It's normal drama and writing and tragedy, he just happens to write it happening to women too... women who handle it just as well if not better than his male characters.
