Secret 1 - Doctor Who, the Ninth Doctor

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the Ninth Doctor, as portrayed by Christopher Eccleston, from the TV show "Doctor Who". He is a man with lightly tanned light skin and very short dark hair. He is wearing a loosely-fitting leather jacket or a coat. He is throwing the cards of a playing deck, maybe in a magic trick?]

It makes me sad that he's the Doctor who everyone ignores or just doesn't care about, think about, or talk about. I wouldn't care about hate. It's the lack of people to talk to about him that bothers me.

Yeah, I know. Just one season. But of all of them, classic as well as new, he's the one I love the most, and the one I love with the least qualification.

Secret 2 - General fandom, meta

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a kinda shapeless blob with eyes and a huge mouth asking "are we meta yet?" There is the copyright symbol and the word "hugh" in a corner. Specific credit in notes.]

I'm so tired of all the meta. Everything is meta meta meta. Can't people just shut up and enjoy the books without making a huge deal out of every little thing that crosses their minds and every "question" they have?

Sometimes I think they just want to sound smart.

Secret 3 - Western comics

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Starfire or Koriandr from the DC comic books. She is an humanoid alien with light orange skin and wild wavy dark red hair. Her eyes are entirely green. She has slight muscular tone an dis wearing a very light purple armor consisting of shoulder pieces connected together, straps vertically covering the middle of her breasts and crotch and arm guards extending from her wrists up to her elbows. She has a large circular gem of sorts on her chest, with small yellow circles around, like a flower or sun. There is a city behind her (she appears to be flying), and she is raising a fist upwards as there are narration boxes saying: "Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez" "What are you doing here on Earth, Koriandr of Tamaran? This planet isn't your home." "This city below you isn't glorious Tamarus, whose high spires cut through sweet-smelling golden skies." "To be read immediately after the events in Titans #114" (or 119, it's a bit too small to read clearly.)]

I was a huge DC fan back in the day. Now, I have read so much manga that I genuinely have trouble remembering what direction to go when reading Western-style comics.

Secret 4 - History, general fandom

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a painting of a large crowd around a settlement of large tents, keeping a respectful distance from the royalty walking over a red carpet. It's titled "The Republic at Zenith of Power. Golden Liberty. Election A.D. 1573." by the polish painter Jan Matejko. It has mostly warm colors, contrasted by the dark in the clothing of some of the people scattered about. (Thank you, OP!)]

Sometimes I daydream about scenes from history... But with the figures replaced with animes and cartoons and games instead.

Secret 5 - Inspector Morse, Endeavour

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is three screen-captures of the episode "The Remorseful Day", the final of the TV show "Inspector Morse". One shows a sunset or sunrise with many clouds on one side, and hill or mountain silhouetted on the foreground with some trees with little or no foliage. In the second screen-capture there is a man driving a car and adjusting the rear-view mirror. He has light skin, short dark hair and is wearing a suit. He looks distressed. In the third (from the same scene?) there is the face of an older man reflected in the mirror. He has olive skin and short gray hair. He is frowning or at least very serious.]

Double Secret Time (or "things that everyone is bawling their eyes out about that irritate the hell out of me")

The way The Remorseful Day was filmed pissed me off. Was it so difficult to keep the Strange/Yvonne plotline? In the original book Morse was protecting Strange; in the adaptation it just made no goldarned sense. It would make as much difference for the audience as it did for Lewis!

[About the car/rear-view mirror scene?] I thought it was cheap and looked like a bad photomanip. Also, hereafter Thursday never calls Morse "Endeavor", so that was, too, random as hell.

I like both shows WTF even.

Secret 6 - Drowtales

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the logo of the webcomic "Drowtales".]

I hate the controlling "Can't disagree with me it's my baby you GET THE FUCK OUT" attitude the author has.

If you liked the first version better than the reboot, you're "ungrateful." If you don't like that the art's gotten lazier, you're "shallow." If you play the site games in a way that he doesn't like, you're "toxic." (Also, laughing out loud, say goodbye to those games because we can't have that.) If you question or criticize his decisions for any reason, you're just a "troll."

His art has gotten a bigger fanbase over the years, and he needs to understand that, as a creator of a product (that he does indeed make a living from), you can't just expect everyone to kiss your ass and share all of your opinions. This is your fucking JOB, now. Not Deviantart. Man up. It's not just your personal project, anymore. You are selling something. So don't treat your customers and potential customers like shit.

Secret because you can't criticize Kern. Not around him, and not to other Drowtales fans.

Secret 7 - Joss Whedon

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the director, producer, writer, composer and actor Joss Whedon. He is a man with light skin and reddish-brown-blond hair. He has a beard and mustache and a receding hairline.]

I sometimes wonder if part of the reason he creates strong female characters is because he enjoys tearing them down.

Secret 8 - Animal Crossing

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-05 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the character Charlies from the videogame series "Animal Crossing. She is a cartoonish bear with green fur, yellow cheeks, paws, feet and ears and short brown hair. Her eyes are half-lidded and her lids are pink. She is wearing a red vest with white lines.]

The rest of the Animal Crossing fandom seems to dislike the Uchi villagers (especially Charlise) but I love them!

I was introduced to the series through Wild World when I was a student at university and everything about the Uchi girls from their sleep pattern (staying up late and sleeping in) to the things they talk about reminds me of when I was a student myself. They remind me so much of my initial days playing Animal Crossing and the whole student experience. I just can't hate them because of this.

Picture related, Charlise is my Uchi and I really like her, even if no one else does.

Secret 9 - Feminist Frequency

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-06 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the banner of the website "Feminist Frequency". It has the logo and the tagline "Conversations with Pop Culture". It also has dial tuners from radios and various abstract waves and colors floating around. The predominant colors are blue, green, pink and purple. It also has a navigation strip right below it, with the options of "Home", "About", "Events", "Resources", "Donate" and "Contact".]

This makes me want to join Tumblr again after quitting it for some time. So I can watch the Social Justice Warriors FIGHT EACH OTHER.

Secret 10 - Dream Boy by Jim Grimsley (warning, there might be spoilers in the comments)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-06 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cover of the book "Dream Boy, a novel" by Jim Grimsley. It has a white background, and then in the middle, taking up most of the space, a black square with gray scratches over it and over some of the white background, and then a picture of a statue of an angel somewhere with many trees surrounding it, maybe a park? In the black square are the words: "A novel of uncommon grace, full of suspense, violence and romance . . . triumphant." -- Renee Graham, The Boston Globe. Below the author's name is "Author of Winter Birds and My Growning" (?)]

I want to believe the ending is real. It's too damn depressing if it's not.

Secret because: It's obviously not and I feel really lame for wanting to believe otherwise.
