Hahaha, I had this same reaction. I have reached a point where I literally can't *not* engage critically with a work, because even if I just want to "mindlessly" fangirl all over something, my brain interrupts with thoughts about narrative structure or connections to other stories or how this plays into broader "universal" narratives or such-and-such stereotypes or or or... Yeah. And then I just want to TALK about them with someone to get them out of my brain!

In short, it's not because I want to sound smart. It's because somewhere, somehow, despite all my resistance, my professors succeeded in hammering constant critical analysis into my brain.
