For some of us, that's HOW we enjoy our media. That's the fun part.

(Though this sounds like it's about the fandom for a specific series of books, and I'm incredibly curious)

My money's on A Song of Ice and Fire. There is meta everywhere for those books, even on the oft-maligned Tumblr.

It's definitely why I went into the field I did. Because academia is often like fandom for books/films that otherwise wouldn't have a fandom. Instead of making clever manips and fanart and fanmixes and fic, we write essays and conference papers and dissertations. Different strokes for different folks!
