I do find the way Joss tears down his female characters particularly fetishistic, especially his obsession with rape and sexualized violence and women getting their psyches shattered by men.

But I really just wish writers in general would stop turning to rape as Something That Happens to Women and using it as the first go-to device to emotionally destroy a female character, it gives me the heebies.

This is my biggest issue with Game of Thrones tbh. Like, can writers please stop constantly using rape as a cheap way of getting across how evil a character is, for the sake of creating drama, bringing a female character down, or showing how crapsack a world is? It's gross, offensive, and just plain lazy writing :/

I always hated how rape is pushed to being a female problem. In my own work there's two instances where it happens to dudes.

I still feel like I'm going to get yelled at by someone for it though.

Also yeah ...there ARE other ways to show a character is evil. Less obvious. People should be more creative to come up with ways to show someone's evil. Maybe show them willing to backstab someone to save themselves (cowardly but also evil). Show them as someone who can kill someone without really caring or thinking about it.
