*does the Spongebob rainbow* Motivaaation.

I owe someone a fanfic (not in a formal way, I just told her about it and now she's really looking forward to it), and I can't get myself to start writing. I set myself a deadline in the hopes it would help, but it didn't. It's not even that I don't want to write it, because I do. And I hate making her wait when she's so excited for it. But somehow all of that isn't enough to get me working. Any tips?

JUST DO IT

WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!

WRITE A SENTENCES. EVEN IF IT'S A SHITTY SENTENCES. NOW BUILD A PARAGRAPH AROUND IT. KEEP AT IT. EVEN IF YOU JUST GET LIKE 3 SENTENCES DONE IT'S STARTED AND YOU CAN GO FROM THERE.

DROP WHAT YOU ARE DOING, DO IT NAO.

WHY ARE YOU STILL READING THIS.

CRY SOME MOARRRR

I know the feeling. When I get stuck I just open a word doc and either type a vague and ridiculous sounding outline like: FIRST THEY GO HERE AND THEN THEY DO THAT THING AND THEN WAFFLES WITH MAPLE SYRUP.

Then usually I'll have an idea about a particular scene I want to get out, so I start with that. In this case, waffles with maple syrup, because yeeeees.

Or porn. Porn is also fun.

My first draft is always hilarious and terrible because I enjoy writing like that, even with angsty fic. When I'm done I just go through from the start and cut out all the nonsense parts and make sure everything flows.

I wish you luck on your motivational quest!

when all else fails

unplug your cable and turn off your wifi and put something delicious next to you

and give that delicious thing a post-it saying "YOU CAN CONSUME ME AS SOON AS YOU HAVE WRITTEN X NUMBER OF PAGES NOW MOVE YO ASS YOU DUMBASS"

Maybe writing on paper will be easier? That way you're not as inclined to be distracted by the Internet.

Either that, or literally just start typing, anything at all. You can always cut non-relevant chunks out later.

Good luck anyways, anon!

da: this is a good idea. I write on paper and it seems to come out more easily that way!

Typing it up on the other hand..

Typing up is such a chore. That's the reason I haven't updated/published half my fics right now haha. I try and write by hand to get the ball rolling, then switch back to typing up.

Talk-to-text program! The results aren't perfect, but hey, I was gonna have to edit anyway.

Don't owe people fic in the first place. I bet you suspected before you said anything and the minute the words left your mouth, you knew for sure that you wouldn't write it. Listen to that feeling the next time.
