My first impulse is: say "go find a real doctor", but I suppose that might be a mean thing to say to really destitute people. So, I guess, if this happens a lot, find the closest low-cost person more competent than he is, and send people there?

he was deliberately going as far into the middle of nowhere he could, it seems unlikely that there would be such a convenient person

or that if there was one the people wouldn't go to them instead of him

I mean, shit, son, if I'm bleeding out and there's a borderline competent medical-type person available and he's all "I didn't go to medical school for 8 years, let me give you a phone number of a guy" I'd be like Bitch you better get with the stitchin because it's you or my cousin and that kid's a disaster
