Black widow

I found a huge black widow at the park near my house. I managed to get one pic (my camera batteries kept dying).

I don't usually think about them here. I saw a small one and some webs when I was in California, but I didn't think I'd find a big one over here on the East coast.

In other news, I found twenty dollars on the ground last week and one dollar this week. I always find money on the ground in the fall (not that it's fall yet, whatever).

Huh, I'm from Missouri and I'd never associate black widows with California. Plenty of 'em around here, though! In the vein of spiders, there's one out in my garden which I've nicknamed The Demon Spider - a big old orb weaver - maybe a Metepeira labyrinthea. I'm not generally scared of creepy crawlies, but that is one properly evil lookin' spider.
