But what makes sense for you doesn't necessarily make sense for Sam and Dean. I can see Sam going for a more painless method if he were to commit suicide but a gun makes total sense for Dean, if he were to choose a self inflicted, overt method of suicide. It's just his character - avoiding pain wouldn't be part of his thought process.

I suppose that's true...

I apologize.

It's nothing to apologize for! Your experience is valid and what you say makes sense.

It's not necessarily avoiding pain. It's avoiding surviving with half your face shot off (as mentioned below). A - not entirely unreasonable - fear of those who attempt suicide is that they might survive, but damaged. There are many story about this, like people who jump under trains who just end up losing limbs. Knowing about guns would just make you more likely to worry about that.

I do not know the characters so well, I admit, but suicide is a weird thing. It can be both calculated and emotional at the same time. Some people just go for it, mothers set up a very controlled scene. And you don't necessarily know which person is which beforehand.

IDK, I think both Sam and Dean are stilled enough with guns that they'd be able to make it count. If they really wanted to be sure of the outcome they could even track down the Colt again and just use that.

I think a gun makes a lot of sense for Dean but not for Sam. Not that I think it's likely that either of them would commit suicide if only because they know what Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory are like and they all suck more than continued existence on Earth.

You're right about suicide in general being a weird thing but I do know these characters very well and I just don't see either of them going for a knife. (Well. Maybe Ruby's knife for Sam but that would be because it was Ruby's and not because it was a knife.)

Or because it's a demon-killing knife. Especially at some points in the timeline. --But probably a stabbing.
