Except that the rate of unsuccessful suicide by gun, compared to unsuccessful suicide by almost any other method, is absurdly low. In the real world, men kill themselves at a rate three times that of women, and three-quarters of those suicides are by gun. Guns WORK. Pills, wrist-slashing, these are ways to end up in the hospital getting sympathy. Almost nobody survives shooting themself.

It's true, but the stats I'm looking at have suicide attempts by gun as successful 90% of the time. That's a 10% chance of winding up with severe, debilitating brain damage for the rest of your life, as opposed to a lower success rate but failure consequence of, say, "wrist scar".
