I really need to watch that. Tumblr has made me curious.

ayrt

I'd give it a shot. It's kind of like a sports anime for people who don't generally like sports anime (and who love ho yay and fan service). Unlike a lot of sports anime, the sport isn't made out to be the most important thing in the entire world and nothing else matters (and they don't make swimming techniques overly dramatic and bizarrely powerful with actual battle auras and such like animes such as Prince of Tennis did). Most of the main characters aren't really obsessed with swimming and do it because it's fun and they like being spending time with each other. Sure, they'd like to win but it's not treated like a life and death situation. In fact, the anime kind of pokes fun at the character who really is obsessed with swimming. They play it for laughs that he loves swimming so much that he wears a swimsuit under his clothes at all time (and in the bathtub) and will immediately start stripping when he's near a body of water. And even then, he's not really shown to be especially competitive, he just loves being in the water.
They do have a character who is ultra competitive, but it's actually demonstrated that his competitiveness has kind of fucked up his friendships and isn't entirely healthy.

Anyway, the anime doesn't take itself incredibly seriously and is also genuinely funny at times (intentionally funny I mean). And have I mentioned the fanservice?

This sounds awesome, actually. Thanks for the primer anon. I'll give it a go for sure.
