Oh no, I understand which is why it's so difficult to pinpoint issues so far in advance. But at the same time I know why the countries need to know so far in advance if they are hosting the Olympics.

Such as what's happening in Rio or I understand the symbolism in giving Athens the Olympics but it really could not support them, plus look at all the controversy surrounding Sochi.

Well, I think those (or at least some of those) were cases where, perhaps, the standards were a little different, and considerations of safety and prudence were not foremost in the minds of the IOC, at least in comparison to the massive fucking dumptrucks of cash they were presumably being offered

Isn't that always the case? It's about who makes the shiniest presentation and who can bribe the committee.

Either way, I will sit back and enjoy the Olympics.
