Supernatural in particular is a good show to give a one-season trial period. If you don't like the first season, you won't like anything else, and the first season stops before it gets truly weird. So. You know.

Of course, I had a friend who hounded me to try Buffy, and I only gave that like five episodes before calling it quits. :)

Haha, I brought that option up and she said to start with season 4 (she really just wants me to ship Destiel with her, and to be perfectly frank I'm not sure that I would, it's not really my kind of ship from what I've seen), but I can't stand coming into a show partway through...like, all of the mythos and plot up until that point that I wouldn't know would really bother me. So basically if I start on s1 as I'd planned and I don't end up enjoying it, I'll have failed on two accounts.

Oh, that's rough. :/ Well...S04E5 and S04E6 are good stand-alone episodes, and you can use them to gauge interest? That way you can say you started in season 4 but it won't spoil you if you do decide to watch from the beginning, and neither of those episodes even has Castiel in them. (He's not actually in Season 4 that much, all things considered.)

Hmm, okay, thanks for the tip! I'm just trying to get over that bullheaded feeling of being repelled because it's being foisted on me so hard, which is a shame because I do think I could enjoy it.

Yeah, I get it. :) Good luck--I hope your friend eases up!
