this may be shocking to some people but a man and a woman can have an incredibly tight longlasting relationship that eclipses a lot of other relationships in their lives and still be completely platonic.
smh at everyone who can't comprehend that friendships aren't any "lesser" than romantic relationships re: depth of feelings or shit survived together.

Of course they can. Friendships also sometimes develop into romance. Not saying I agree with the secret, and I say this as a Harry/Hermione shipper, because I think their was a strong, equal bond between every member of the trio. But friendships can develop into romance, and it is okay to ship relationships that are platonic in canon.

ayrt
of course it is, the sentiment of BUT THEY HAD SUCH A STRONG BOND WHY DIDN'T THEY END UP TOGETHER just pisses me off.

Ah. Well, then I completely agree, even as a shipper. I ship them because I prefer that sort of relationship and usually dislike the sort of bickering relationship of Ron/Hermione, not because I think they had a stronger bond or it is somehow inherently better.

Just pointing out here that it's funny that with gay couples, most people say romance is less than friendship and that romance ruins it. Funny how it seems to be opposite for het couples.

Yeah, but when the hetero protagonist spends x percent of the book having a close relationship with a character of the opposite sex and has almost no interaction with the character he does end up with, that's a problem with the book. Even if that sort of thing happens all the time in real life. Books are not about real life, they're about the story.

YES THIS thank you. Felt like by the end, Ginny existed just to be a prize to be handed to Harry on a plate. So depressing. I wish we'd had even a tenth of the interaction between them that we had between Harry and Hermione.
