Well not a movie, but Snape? He's pretty much the poster boy for "fucking up your own life".

ha ha true

same goes for Voldemort

yeah, growing up in that era in an orphanage with only his powers to protect him, feeling alienated by the first wizard he met and then being considered a lower caste in Racist House and having to use all his wits and charms and lies to survive there, were working all against him

but all his choices were his

killing people was his choice

making horcruxes was his choice

becoming a terrorist was his choice

training other assassins and torturers was his choice

like, he was the result of fairly sick systems and presumably inbreeding, but so were other people and they didn't all turn into homicidal maniacs

okay the Black family seems a good counterpoint with apparently only a few sane members

I guess JRK is very adamantly against keeping it in the family???
