It's name is megane, which is apparently Japanese for glasses.

Haha yeah I see cars as having faces all the time. I wondered if there was a fandom-related joke or reference that I was missing here though.

I don't generally "see" cars as having faces, but it's definitely a thing in my head, at least with my own vehicle. I was in a minor (and totally my own fault) accident last year that crunched up one of my car's front fenders, and until it was repaired I got sympathy twinges in that side of my own face whenever I looked at her.

(My car is also a very shabby beige grey, and the replacement fender was dark red before we repainted it. I told people she was cosplaying as Kratos.)

Anime fandom...Megane is one of the Japanese words that's come into use in English-language fandom. (Mostly in the form of Meganekko ('glasses girl'), IME.)

I'm a horrible person, but I chuckled. Then I started shipping it with a SAAB because late model SAABs did have glasses (or at least their headlights looked like either architect's glasses or really heavy eyeliner).

I am! It's a relatively obscure character in a relationship with someone who is (admittedly quite easily) almost always written in fanfiction as an evil, ruthless, manipulative warmonger thirty-three years her senior, and I'm having loads of fun with it! It's much more popular than I initially thought it would be, given the obscurity/rampant dislike, but I suspect that adopting the orphaned main (and most popular) characters is what initially brings in the readers.

160k words, and going strong. I am writing many an epic adventure for everyone. :D
