Nearly-Headless Nick's deathday cake didn't have a date on it.

Godric isn't dead.

Can you explain these to me? Is your headcanon that Nearly Headless Nick is Godric Gryffindor?

Hee! No, to be honest I hadn't realized there was a name significance with Godric until just now. Godric refers to Godric from True Blood. Who is not dead, dammit, the show is wrong.

I'd add to this - all numbers in the Harry Potter canon have been infected with a meta-narrative-dyscalculia spell and should be summarily ignored. It just makes life easier.

It didn't keep such close track of the canon after OotP - is Nick's cake still the only in-universe date that fixes the books in the 90s?

As far as I know that stupid date on the cake is only thing. Nothing else comes to mind right off-hand.
