Here's a reason: monarchy is dead, get over it.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
and superheroes aren't real, your point?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
LMAO ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS

yes we're only allowed to enjoy things that are firmly rooted in today's real-world reality

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, I agree with your political views, but I don't think that we need to turn that into opposition to these figures of popular entertainment that some kids really like and that aren't all actually royalty anyway. The existence of a monarchy is intrinsically unjust, but it's probably okay in children's entertainment.

are you serious

when i was a kid i didn't want to be a princess because of getting a prince or being part of the monarchy

i didn't even know what a monarchy was

i just wanted to be magical and wear pretty dresses.

This. Who wants to be a monarch, with titles, responsibilities, fueding warlords and all that madness? Nobody. Pass the pretty dresses.

Also...damn, there's a lot of sparkle in that picture.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean, the same goes for all those villains going "I want to rule the world". Who the hell would want that? Think of all the fucking paperwork!

It's actually very much alive here, but really that's besides the point. It's about fantasy. You know, like dragons aren't real but people like them.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you need to go back to history class then - there are still monarchies left in today's time.

And I don't just mean constitutional monarchies but absolute ones still exist as well.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Monarchies are like vampires, unless you cut off their head and ram a stake though their hearts then they keep coming back to life. Also the outfits of younger members tend to sparkle gentle in the sunlight.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah!

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Whole lotta responses here really don't care that absolute rule is inherently evil. Sad, that.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
There are plenty of princesses around these days who will never rule anything absolutely. And plenty of people without the title who will probably inherit exactly that.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing is inherently evil. Well, maybe the NSA, but that is it.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Monarchy =/= absolutism, learn2history. I mean, monarchs developed the concept of absolutism, but monarchy (in Europe, which most of the princesses are based off of) preceded absolutism by a long time. Like, a millennium.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
And there is at least one person who does not realise that many 'monarchies' are anything but absolute rule. Ignorant, that.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Lol you don't need a monarchy for an absolute rule.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
See, and I believed that when I was a kid (that princesses were something from long long ago) but I still wanted to be a princess.

WHAT

WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN

(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Kate became a princess.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
Don't you mean a royal broodmare?

If you want to be nitpicky, she became a Duchess. But she did marry a prince!
