I get pansexual as a label. I see demisexuality more as a preference than as a sexual orientation, though.

What sort of ticks me off more is when people assign sexualities to characters in very forced ways, and make a point of it..

I don't mind if you consider Sherlock to be asexual - but then just write a good story in which he's acting asexual, instead of writing a 3-page essay on his asexuality.

I think a lot of asexual people just wish to be represented and therefore will write essays and defend and stuff like that.
I find it much more obnoxious when people insist a character is straight and nothing else.
