I identify as asexual, which I fully admit may be my problem empathizing with this. I understand that sex is important, and that socially who you have sex with is important, I just have a very very hard time understanding why and understanding why it's so important to some people.

I feel the exact same way, so I don't think it's because you're asexual. Unless I'm wondering if they want to have sex with me personally, I don't know why it's important.

I couldn't agree more. Sex is not the central tenet of most people's personalities or daily lives.
