Let's be real the storytelling and characterization in something like Avatar: The Last Airbender is more sophisticated and mature than half the 'adult shows' out there.
(Actually recently I've started watching a lot MORE anime again. I haven't watched as much as I've been watching lately since I was under twenty. And hell I'm an English major but most of the books I read are YA.)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 02:41 am (UTC)(link)Some shows with a young target are good, some are shit
Some shows with an older target are good, some are shit
and which shows are shit are entirely subjective and varies from person to person and in all likelihood will appear to be about half.

I said that 'shows like Avatar' are more sophisticated than half the adult stuff out there. Which I believe? Probably more than half for me personally, because most shows, both for adults and for kids, are kind of shit. I'm just giving an example of a show that I believe IS more sophisticated than a huge chunk of adult entertainment, and one that I think makes OP's friend's argument silly. I never once implied that children's entertainment was more mature than adult entertainment on the whole.
