Fun fact: my first-ever rejected canon was for the Redwall series - specifically Outcast of Redwall, when Skarlath dies. It was like something shut down in my little 7-year-old brain and went NOPE. I remember realizing, like it was this huge revelation: wait a minute, it's not actually real, so I can decide he's alive in my head if I want him to be!

...I'm actually convinced that this was a formative moment for me as a reader and writer of fanfiction.
