Embrace it, OP! My timing is always off with fandoms (I find them when the canon is finished, etc.) so I doubt I'll ever experience this, but it would be really fun.

God, I know the feeling. My latest fic -- first in a new fandom -- has more hits, kudos, and comments then anything else I've posted. By a lot.

Secret 9 - Once Upon a Time

[Picture is a very polished and shiny, round red apple or maybe a decoration in form of an apple.]

I've never had a fic as well received as my most recent one in a new fandom. The numbers of kudos, comments and hits is insane (to me). I feel so special.

Secret because: Big fandom is just big and active and the pairing is popular.

enjoy it, op, but always remember

this feeling of validation? of feeling special? it won't be forever. many people, not only in fandom or in the internet, but in general, do really crazy things to chase the feeling again when it leaves

please don't be one of those people, op

wow. this went afternoon special with a quickness.

"Little Suzy was a good kid. She did well in school, had many friends, and she knew all about the dangers of pornography and pedophilia on the internet. She knew what sites not to frequent and not to give out her information on the internet.

But what nothing ever prepared for was...

Fandom Popularity.

Tonight, follow Suzy's rise and fall as a fanfiction writer. Join her struggles, see her tears, and may you learn from her story."

hahaha... you win the internet. Yes Iam so oldschool I still use the expression.

OP here.

I promise not to go off my rails and chase fandom popularity. It's nice to have something that reminds me I can do things because I'm struggling a bit with my real life (which is all writing, writing, writing up my PhD) so having someone say. "You're a good writer" makes it so much easier to go back to my thesis thinking I can do it.

Yes, it's different writing, but it helps.

I can handle my life. I really can. Random strangers believe in me! (which makes it so much easier to trust that people I know believe in me too!)

You sound like a nice, sweet person, OP. You go and get that awesome PhD and fanfic kudos like a boss.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-11 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
OP - *hugs*

If only I got PhD kudos...I'd write so much faster.

Probably because, while there is a metric shitton of Rumbelle out there, it is mostly complete dreck (see: bed of thorns) so people cling to any new blood they can get.
