Loki's not actually Odin's brother in Norse mythology. They're blood brothers.

Still, that's not how I want my best friend to bond with my child. On the other hand, Loki DID hand him over.

The eight-legged horse is Loki's kid, Sleipnir. Odin just happens to ride him. I mean, you could ask Odin to let you adopt from his stable, but if you wanted your own pony babies, Loki and some shapeshifting will have to be involved.

The six-legged horse was Loki's gift to Odin, but Loki's the one that seduced the stallion and gave birth to the thing in the first place.

Finding out about this was pretty much the part where my brain went, "Nope. Greek myths are all the weirdness I can handle." Dionysus gestating in Zeus's thigh and Pasiphae being mother of the minotaur via an actual bull are admittedly only two of a long line of weird things in Greek mythology, but they're none of them quite Sleipnir-level weird.
