People in some places call cigarettes 'fags'. Should they stop using that term as well (especially since I think the using it for cigs and before that a bundle of sticks came waaaaayyyyyy before the slur).

Yes I do. But it doesn't matter. You are talking about the history of a word and trying to compare it to a slur like fag. But many countries don't consider it a slur.
