It's a twattish elitist thing to do, is what it is. XD When you're talking about two different canons, like the OP is, you can't just call one of them "canon." They're both canon. It isn't hard to say "ACD canon" or just "ACD."

No, I'm sorry, but I can't agree. ACD's work has a unique, distinct status. It's the original; it precedes everything else. Everything else is an adaptation of it. You can't just ignore that relationship, and I don't think it's elitist or twattish to say that. I agree that it would be clearer to designate "ACD canon", and I'm not saying that ACD's work overrules everything else - but it does have a special status, I have to think.

Except officially (and legally) ACD Holmes is "canon Holmes" which is why you'll hear even Moffat say it.

Ah, this is a thing then? That makes a little more sense! I was like "OMG, I know FS is full of people who hate BBC Sherlock, but this is getting a little ridiculous."

nice of you to call people twats for knowing more about the topic than you

Full of paranoid (and rude) Sherlock stans, more like

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, thinking the original version is the original, how 'elitist'. I can call it "canon" if I wish, and I do. BBC stans can do what they like.

ACD's Sherlock stories have been being referred to as The Canon, with the capitalization, for A HUNDRED YEARS.

Seniority matters. Learn your fandom history.
