(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 02:05 am (UTC)(link)I'm closing out a big bang right now, and it's novel length. So whenever someone asks me what I'm doing for the weekend, I say I worked on my novel, for an online writing community, which sounds less 'weird' than a fanfic fest. Which spurred one of my other coworkers to mention a third coworker, who has published several novels that are continuations of works that are now in public domain (Sherlock Holmes, and something else I can't recall right now). Anyway, all of his books were panned in reviews on Amazon.com. But also, I sometimes want to ask what other fandoms he writes for, nudge nudge, wink wink.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 12:17 am (UTC)(link)I work a professional white collar job in clinical research and it gets commented on that I know so many people around USA when I"m traveling for work because of all my fandom activities but I just say I'm in online writing clubs etc :) Hell half the younger people in my office met their spouses on the internet so the stigma I saw at 18 bringing my long distance internet boyfriend to prom (I'm 34 now) is long gone :) which is fabulous!
I'm a big Zach fan and I read Pinto and other RPF and it doesn't bother me in the least what he said. I think it's creepy the new way that fanfiction is shoved at actors who don't want to know about it.
Also :) Fanzines existed forever ago. Maybe some of the older Star Trek fans can say if people brought up the fanzine's fic stuff to the actors at cons? Was it just not discussed? :)
Having been into Anime in the past and into TV Show/Movie fandoms now I find it interesting how doujishi and mangaka fanworks work in Japan where you can be a famous well known author and parody/draw porn of someone elses work and it's a-ok and make a profit from it to boot!
