Could it be that you enjoy the comfort aspect of the fic? I enjoy my characters being whumped and tortured just so I can enjoy the glorious comforting that ensues.

Your icon + comment make me want whump of any of KU's characters.

What Star Trek Bones pairings you like? And I might have some Riddick ones too.

I feel like a horrible person because I only got halfway through the first sentence before bursting into inappropriately loud laughter at the placement of this secret.

Edit: Oh, wow, and the one underneath this. I should stop drinking.

Rape fantasy can be pretty common (especially in fandom). . .it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you or that you approve of rape happening to people in real life. Don't beat yourself up about it (unless, well, you're into that.)

Its not sexual, though. I'd be less confused if I were getting turned on. But I'm not, so I'm not sure what it is.

You can like things, even sexual things, from a non-sexual point of view. And rape is not really, y'know, sex. So maybe you enjoy hearing about your favorite characters being tortured (for lack of a better word) for some reason. I don't know. A lot of people have a laughter reaction when they see someone get hurt, too. The human mind is a strange place.

I certainly can't speak for all of these fics, but there's something about reading the perspective of the victims of such crimes in fiction. You really get into their head and see what's inside and how they react and there's a visceral level to your experience of their mindset. It's like you get to see their mind truly naked for the first time.

You and #6 would make good friends.

I used to be the exact same way, OP. I think for me it was some form of catharsis from stress and the feelings of helplessness I felt in real life that had no truly strongly emotional outlets (it nothing sexual or anything either here).

I don't know about your case, but with me, the fantasies stopped once I did some hardcore introspection and found a sort of peace within myself, getting some issues irl solved.

Secret 7 - Fanfiction (warning for sexual violence)

warning for sexual violence

[Picture is Emma Watson playing Hermione Granger from the "Harry Potter" films. She is a young woman (teenager?) with light skin, brown eyes and long wavy light brown or dark blonde hair.]

I really enjoy reading fics about the characters I relate to most being raped or tortured or going through some other sort of trauma. It isn't sexual. I'm not exactly sure what it is.

I didn't realize the connection or how messed up it was until I started having dreams about myself going through the same sort of things that weren't nightmares.

I'm starting to question my reading choices and am mostly just really confused.

Don't beat yourself up over this, OP (just go read about it)

You're allowed to enjoy this stuff. You're even allowed to enjoy it without it being a kink, fetish, or some kind of sexual turn-on - sometimes you just enjoy the angst. And it doesn't even have to be about comfort, either! While I like my comfort okay, I enjoy the angst, the whump, etc for their own sakes, not what comes after them.

So long as you don't condone this kind of shit in the real world, you really have nothing to worry about.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-14 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
I've had that since kindergarten. It took on a sexual quality when I was around ten, but there's still a component that's not sexual and just about the torture and helplessness and defeat. There's some kind of sweet lethargy to it for me... in my torture dreams I feel relaxed and safe somehow... sounds strange, but kind of like in the womb.
I don't know if that's remotely close to how you feel when you read fics like that or fantasize or dream, but really, there's nothing problematic to it. As long as you still have your drive for self-preservation and don't get suicidal because the idea of slowly bleeding to death seems so sweet.

people tend to be attracted to things that scare them
your mind just tries to fortify against them, prepare you just in case
so that if you ever really get yourself in some shit, you won`t panic outright and have some scenarios to pull you through

you are ok
