Cassandra Claire/Clare

Am I the only person who was in the HP fandom that doesn't give two shits about her? I mean, there was a time when I really didn't like her or her fanfics and loved to make fun of them, but now I don't really care. Yeah, her crappy book got made into a crappy movie because her Dad's a big name in publishing or something, but all I can muster about that is annoyance in its mildest form. Yet I have friends who keep talking about what a shitty person she was and how they're so mad she got fame and glory. I don't think I know anyone outside of fandom who knows who Cassandra Clare is.

A friend's cousin knew the Mortal Instruments series but there's no way she was involved in fandom.

I was too young when the whole thing went down and just sort of avoided the whole issue. I tried to read the Draco Trilogy but found it TERRIBLE.

Right there with you. I can't even claim mild irritation. Cassie is firmly lodged in the "things I don't give a crap about" portion of my brain.

Although I do look forward to the upcoming rants by rabidfen about the new Potter-verse movie. I don't know what those rants will be, but the wank should be delightful to watch.

There's already rants along the lines of "JKR is evil and wants our money." Right.

You mean the woman that managed to almost accidentally become a billionaire and then gave over half of it away to charities is only out for money? I feel there is a disconnect between the accusation and Rowling's actions. Especially since by all accounts a significant portion of her earnings from the new movie are going to a charity that she wrote the original tie-in book for.

Now claiming Warner Bros. just wants to rip us all off, and gouge our money is an accusation that holds a bit more water.

Oddly enough, yes, but from...Bill Rinaldi. Which was hilarious. The Search and The Promise weren't just comics to milk the avatar fandom for more money, amirite? The dude got so defensive after people called him out on his bullshit on tumblr, haha.

There's also pre-emptive wank about how it's going to be racist. I didn't even know it was possible to get pissed off about a casting call THAT HASN'T EVEN HAPPENED YET.

For me it's a mix of disgust at her behaviour and history of plagiarism, envy at her success, and an admittedly juvenile enjoyment of watching her consistently put her foot in her mouth. I know, I'm not very mature about it.

I just think plagiarismis not some fluffy "aw, it's not so bad" you just brush away, especially when stuff like that gets published.
